Cupid

Last week I was packing and prepping for my engagement with the Narragansett Bay Quilters Guild in Rhode Island and going thru samples, etc., and came across my little Cupid linen that I had basted together a very long time ago...and forgot about!    I've been putting in lots of time on my green star quilt, which is large, and thought it would be nice to break up my time and throw in a little guy.

I have had this piece for many years and it came to me badly damaged.  I do remember that it had ripped up icky lace that I had to remove in order to save the middle.  I placed this on a pretty piece of champagne colored Dupioni silk, full thickness wool batting and some leftover raw silk from the back of the Nun's Quilt for the backing.
I am ditching around all the lacework, embroidery and cutwork with Superior Threads' Kimono Silk.

Because everything is so poofy I scribbled in the middle of all the little "windows" to push the poof down.

I usually like to do a corner or a section of a piece first so I can audition how the quilting designs are going to look.  These pictures show a before...

ditching only...

...and after of the embroidered flower motifs.  I am ditching the embroidery VERY close, adding three more micro echo's and then adding tiny pebbles in the left over spaces.  Loving how this is looking!

This piece measures a whopping 14"-ish square.  This will be heavily beaded, of course, and will be the perfect size to bring on some very long upcoming flights.

And speaking of little guys...I am going to be starting to quilt small wholecloth linen parts into framed miniatures that I will be selling on Etsy.  I am hoping to start those in another week or so and will definitely do a blog post on those when they're ready.

Hugs, Cindy :)

Lovely work. Wish I had the confidence to start a project like yours. I have a tablecloth my Mother embroidered 65 years ago,and I have been studying it to see what I could do to make it a more useable piece. Your inspiration is making me look at it more. Thanks for sharing Chris

Cindy. I love this little piece. I have an upcoming trip that I am planning to take some hand work with me. Have you had any difficulty taking scissors on board the airplane? If not what type of cutting implement do you taker? Thank you.
