Featuring Fiona from Australia!

I received an email from Fiona sharing her beautiful little masterpiece and just had to share with all of you!  The minute I saw it, it reminded me of a mini version of  The Nun's Quilt.  Thank you for sharing Fiona...your work is spectacular!!!

I found this pretty little hand blanket stitched doily at an OpShop (charity shop) and felt it deserved a home though when I got it I wasn't sure what I would do with it.  When a stitching/designing friend was turning 60 I wanted to give her something I knew she wouldn't make herself.  I have been reading Cindy's blog for awhile and just love the work she does so thought I would give it a try.  I adore quilting feathers but really had no idea what it is like to quilt tiny weeny ones...

I found some brand new linen table napkins so I used that as a base since the linen was exactly the colour I wanted, cotton batting (wadding) and some plain cotton backing...then went to play.  The quilting took about 8 hours and I did do some marking - circles and cross hatching but mostly just free hand feathers as they are so forgiving and also what I feel most confident with.  I then added single beads in the little spaces made by the lacy parts of the stitching.  The whole mini quilt is about 14" square.

I have since found a couple more of these little doilies...so I will be doing more...

Thanks Cindy for your encouragement and inspiration.  Hugz, Fiona
