Jody contacted me recently asking for some help on her first linen quilt as she was quilting it on a long arm...I sent her to my friend, Karen Azevedo, who also does fabulous linen wholecloth quilts on her long arm. I received pictures of the finished quilt and just HAD to share with all of you!
Now remember, this is her VERY FIRST linen quilt...seriously??? Wow. Very impressed! Her story is below...

I have only been quilting for
about 2 years. I instantly
fell in love with it. It
wasn't very long before I realized that I was not going to be happy with just
domestic sewing machine quilting. So
I purchased an old used frame from a local sewing dealer, with a Juki
sewing machine, which I suppose they consider a short arm? Well, all that did was give me a taste
of what I really wanted to do with my quilting.
About a year ago, I befriended a nice
lady at the NW MQX Festive in Portland , she was taking a class that I was in, and told me that
she really wanted to purchase a new long arm, but her husband wouldn't let her
until she sold her current machine. Well,
one thing lead to another, and I ended up purchasing her A1-923 Elite long arm
quilting machine. It was a
winning scenario for both of us! So
I am fairly new to the long arm quilting world, but loving every minute of it!
While at the Sisters Oregon Quilt
show, July of 2013, I saw one of Cindy Needham's whole cloth linen quilts on
display and was in total awe of it. I
had previously taken an on-line class from her on design through
Craftsy.com. I came home
and ordered Cindy's wholecloth linen hand books on-line. Cindy put me in touch with her friend
Karen Azevedo, who is a long arm "Linen Lady", and with her help in
the long arm basting process the "Caribbean
Rose" was born.
The linen tablecloth was purchased
from Linens Galore in Philipsburg, St. Maarten in 1996 while cruising the Easter Caribbean
Islands
The doily attached to the label
was hand made by a dear friend's mother, Delores VanLaningham.

Awesome accomplishment, Jody!!! You are definitely 'hooked' and will live with 'itchy' quilt fingers (when not doing your beautiful projects) for the rest of your life!!! You have joined an ever growing group.......thanks to Cindy!!!! Hugs.....Doreen
What a beauty! You've really outdone yourself and certainly will have to outdo yourself on the next one. You've set your bar high and I can't wait to see your next creation. The Cindy bug has taken hold and you'll never be the same again.

I'm Jody's neighbor and she has been quilting my tops since she got her long arm. Besides raw talent, she is always eager to try something new and tackles projects nearly everyone else would set aside until they had been quilting longer. Not Jody! She's leaving me behind in the dust and I've been quilting for years! She just won a blue ribbon at the Oregon State Fair, the first juried format she's ever entered. You go, Jody!
