Stencils, Workshops and Retreats!
Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to let you know that I just updated the FREE handbook on my website for The Ultimate Stencils. As I tell everyone in class, the grids are new to me in stencil form. I'm used to having them as guides on my drafting table, so I'm learning lots of new things and new ways to use them.
The handbook has been rewritten to include instruction on enlarging, adding extra angles and how to do curved crosshatching. New artwork has been added as well. I will be revising it once again later this summer to include instruction on drafting borders and wholecloth quilts. Please go to the front page of my website and download the handbook from there.
For those of you who have purchased my 2-book set of designs, you will be receiving new designs and updates by the end of the summer. I have so much new stuff I want to send you the updates twice instead of the usual January updates so this will give you something to look forward to!
On another more somber note, I wanted to let everyone know that I have made the decision to no longer offer my extended workshops in Rancho Cordova. This was a VERY difficult decision for me to make and I'm still down in the dumps about it.
I've been hit hard for the past year, and especially over the past few months, with last minute cancellations by my students. When cancellations are received on short notice they are nearly impossible to fill. My overhead remains the same whether they are there or not and this puts me in the red. I try to keep my workshops as affordable as possible by keeping my rates low, but this has bit me in the end as I have less profit to cover the overhead.
Soooo....on that end if there are private groups that would love to have the extended workshops PLEASE let me know!!! I will be offering my Designs Workshop at the Cotton Patch in Lafayette, CA in May and also doing the same workshop for a private group later this year. I don't want to give these up so this may be a better way of offering these. Thank you for understanding.
I still hold my extra-special retreats in McCloud, CA and Auburn, CA six times per year. Just like the workshops, I receive last minute cancellations and would love to have those filled.
Even if a retreat is showing "full", and you are interested in attending, please let me know and I will put you on the wait list. More often than not I may contact you to see if you would like to attend.
Thank you! Big Hugs, Cindy :)

Sorry to hear you'll be cancelling your workshops in Rancho Cordova, but I can understand last minute cancellations make it impossible to fill spots and you would be out various overhead and other expenses for attendance levels planned earlier.

It's too bad that most people don't understand the amount of time, effort, energy, and expense that goes into teaching so that we, as students, can learn from your time and effort and skill. A cancelation policy is there to protect you as a teacher and the expenses that you have incurred. Students need to step up and pay a cancelation expense if need be - emergency or not.
I agree with Karen. Life can get in the way sometimes, but Cindy you should have a cancellation fee and require a notice of certain amount of time for canceling. I would understand the need for that.
Congratulations Cindy for Nancy's Notions carrying your Ultimate Stencil!! It's cool that you are a Chico Lady of Note! You are the Best!!!
