I decided a few days ago one of my favorite four-letter words is "DONE". I've been working on this small piece off and on all year long and I can finally say my favorite word. Whew.
I've been inspired by some of the reversible quilts I've seen at the shows and decided I wanted to do one myself...black on one side and white on the other.
I used Superior Threads' 50 wt. Tire Silk for the main motifs and Kimono Silk for all the micro echoing and clams.
I cannot even begin to tell you how many thousands of threads were buried!!! Great work to do in an airport or airplane.
This started out to be a "reversible" quilt but it talked loudly to me and said that the black/white side needed to be the front and I would just have a beautiful "white" back. I LOVE the contrasting white silk threads on the heavy linen black fabric.
The back of the quilt, the white side, is beautiful too but a bit harder to photograph....
Here's a great shot showing the front/back of the same area...
Those that know my quilts understand that each of them has a story. During the process of quilting this piece my husband, Kent, became very ill and was hospitalized for a week... this makes you realize just how fragile life is and how quickly it can change.
Thus the name... "Life is Fragile...Handle with Prayer".
I had a pretty embroidered edging that was cut from another linen. I placed this on a piece of black silk and machine quilted the name of the piece and my signature below.
I'm leaving for Cape Cod and Annapolis early Monday morning and am planning on getting the binding and finishing touches DONE during my flights. I have another beautiful quilt already started and will be sharing that with you soon!
Hugs, Cindy :)

Absolutely amazing quilting and so beautiful! What did you mark it with?
Your work never fails to leave me 'shaking my head'!! How in the world can anyone do such fabulous stitching? Just totally amazing, Cindy!
Sorry to hear about your husband's hospital stay. I hope that he's doing well. Any week in the hospital means it was serious and it's a struggle to regain our well-being after that.
My question is: Why did you choose the two different silk threads? What is the difference between the two that would lead you to change threads and not just do it all the same.
Oh my. I could actually feel my heart race when I saw this. She is just a wonder to sit and admire. I know you must be happy to be "Done" and also feel so strongly connected to it because of Kent. Life is precious and temporary and short. What a beautiful creation to pour your heart into.
Oh no, I didn't realize Kent had been ill. I hope he is feeling 100% now, but sending positive thoughts and prayers just the same. I agree, life is precious, just as love and friendship. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.
Hope you have a good and safe trip.

Stunning and inspirational
You said it is a small piece but it looks rather large to me. I'm intrigued by the sharp contrast of the black and white. I too want to know what you used to mark the quilt. Beautiful job Cindy. I hope your husband is recovering well.
This one is just superb...
Cindy--This is absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to meet you next summer in Grand Rapids and learn from you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work. Wishing continued recovery for your husband. Robbi in Michigan
Beautiful! Both sides are just stunning and I like your title!
Stunningly beautiful! Way to go, Cindy! Hope your husband is on the mend by now.
