No Canned Air!!!

When I teach my classes I always try to emphasize just how important it is to keep your machine clean and lint free. One of the worst things you can do to your sewing machine is to use canned air for cleaning. It blows all the lint and fuzz back into your machine gears and electronics. There is nothing like a good visual to get my point across.

One of my students just sent me a link to the Bear Hug Quilt Works website that has some fabulous pictures of this very scenario.
Click HERE to check out the rest of the photos!

My favorite cleaning tool is a folded pipe cleaner. I use the folded end to wand the inside of my machine. It's like a "swiffer" for your machine and pulls the lint and yuck out.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to teach my 5-day Design Workshop at the Superior Threads education center in St. George, UT so will hopefully have some great pictures to share with you later in the week.

Hugs, Cindy

I agree! I've also used makeup brushes because they are so little. And foam paint brushes work well too. Happy teaching!

Eeyeww! Ick and yuck. You're right, no canned air! And don't forget to cut down on lint by using good thread... Right? Have fun at Superior.

ps- one of my security words is "ICKede" does the computer comment on posts too?

Wow those photos were scary!!! I have never used canned air and glad of it! I do have a small attachment for my vacuum cleaner that allows me to keep the lint under control.
