Removing scorch marks...

I started a beautiful piece this afternoon and went to iron out the marking pens to see how the thread color looked...

For some unknown reason the linen lightly scorched leaving a golden hue in the very center of my linen wholecloth quilt.  I immediately tried rinsing and drying and even using a gentle stain remover but it's still there...

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this dilemma???

NOTE:  I tried the white vinegar with rinse last night and everything looks much, much better this morning.  Thanks for all the tips!  :)

oh no.... how frustrating.... I haven't tried it but a friend said a soft cloth with white vinegar and then with clean water.... I have also heard hydrogen peroxide but I'm not sure how that will go with the linen.... the other one I have heard for stains is lemon juice and then some time in the sunshine....
Hope you find a solution.... Hugz

I recently found a site that talked about home remedies, and scorch marks was on it. I've not tried the technique with hydrogen peroxide, but there are several testimonials on the site that it worked for them. Here's the site:

Hope it works! Good luck!

Hi Cindy. Maybe this will help:

Tip for Removing Scorch Marks from Linen or Cotton Fabric
by Rachel Paxton

Tip #1: To remove a scorch mark from linen or white cotton fabric, dip a piece of old fabric in hydrogen peroxide, lay it on the scorched portion of the fabric, and rub with a hot iron (not too hot). If it doesn't work the first time, repeat until the stain is completely removed.

Tip #2: If you scorch cotton fabric while ironing, plunge into cold water immediately and let stand 24 hours. The scorched areas will disappear.

I recently ran across a product called "Restoration Fabric Restorer". It's available from Clotilde and others and I read that it would safely remove scorch marks on antique linens. However, I haven't tried it yet. Might be worth the investment.
